Santa Fe MPO uses Waypoint to complete safety audits in seconds.

Waypoint’s automated crash analysis dashboard empowers Santa Fe planners to rapidly visualize and address traffic safety issues.

Waypoint’s automated crash analysis tool has been deployed to the Santa Fe MPO, enabling rapid insights into street safety.

Waypoint Transit announces the successful launch of its interactive Crash Data Dashboard with the Santa Fe Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). This innovative web-based solution allows Santa Fe transportation planners to instantly visualize over a decade of crash data, drastically reducing analysis time and accelerating the deployment of safety improvements.

Waypoint Crash Analysis tooling allows the Santa Fe MPO to understand data in milliseconds.

Key Benefits for Santa Fe MPO:

  • Time Savings: Staff can analyze extensive crash datasets in milliseconds, saving hours of manual work each week.

  • Ease of Use: No coding or advanced spreadsheet skills are required, empowering all team members to derive insights instantly.

  • Presentation-Ready Graphics: Instant generation of clear, professional graphics that seamlessly integrate into public-facing reports and presentations.

Rapid Analysis, Immediate Insights

Previously, Santa Fe MPO staff relied on manual data manipulation in Excel, often requiring specialized expertise in R or Python to clean and interpret crash data. Now, Waypoint’s dashboard processes and visualizes crash data in milliseconds, enabling planners to quickly identify safety concerns and prioritize infrastructure investments aligned with Vision Zero objectives.

“With this tool, I can press a button and know exactly what the data’s saying,” says Erick Aune, Director of the Santa Fe MPO. “Our engineers love it!”

By generating report-ready graphics, Waypoint saves staff time in preparing materials for public presentations.

Recently, Santa Fe MPO utilized Waypoint’s Crash Analysis to efficiently prepare visuals for the MPO’s Transportation Policy Board meeting, clearly illustrating safety concerns at the intersection of NM 599 and Camino de los Montoyas and supporting evidence-based decisions for future improvements.

Waypoint surfaces all nearby intersections to allow the Santa Fe MPO to quickly merge intersections that might have multiple names or be entered incorrectly in crash data.

Looking to the future

Waypoint continues collaborating with Santa Fe MPO to expand its crash analysis capabilities. Upcoming features include:

  • Automated detailed crash diagrams

  • Heat map visualizations

  • Export capabilities (PDF, DOCX, XLSX)

  • Overlay integration with existing safety improvement plans
